The Environmental benefits of using Wood Pellets

Reducing Carbon Emissions

Trees take CO2 from the atmosphere during their whole life. This CO2 is released when the trees are burnt or during natural decay. Carbon is produced in planting, harvesting, processing and transporting of timber plus the manufacture and delivery of wood pellets. Even so an estimated net reduction in CO2 emissions of 90% or more compared with Fossil Fuels is acheived with Wood Pellets.

Traditional Fires

Before people adopted coal for fires in the 1600's, and later oil and gas, log fires were the main source of heat. Traditional open fires lose up to 85% of useful heat up the chimney. Modern pellet burning stoves are very energy efficient.

Cleaner Fuels

Wood pellets are environmentally clean. When burnt the ash produced can be used in the garden as a fertilizer. If spilt they are easily cleaned up. They make great large animal bedding.

Sustainable Resource

As members of the FSC we are committed to preserving our forests. We ensure that timber harvesting never removes trees faster from our forest than it is added to by natural growth. Modern forestry methods make it possible to plant and harvest forests within a 30 year cycle.

Waste not....

Our wood pellets are manufactured on site from timber waste produced through our industrial processes. In the past this would have been burnt on open fires or land-filled. Our on-site wood pellet production facility means less harm to the environment transporting the raw material.
